Volunteering for Animal Lovers of All Ages
For safety reasons, volunteers under the age of 18 are not able to work directly with animals in our care. This doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference – there are service opportunities for volunteers of all ages with a passion for helping animals. Please review the list below, dream up a plan or project of your own and reach out to us at volunteer@ycspca.org to get started!

Hold a Donation Drive
At the shelter we are always looking for donations to help support our animal residents and those with fosters or at our satellite adoption center. You can host a general donation drive at any time or in honor of a special occasion, such as your birthday. You can even host a donation drive for a specific item, such as Kongs. Items like these provide a vital enrichment activity for dogs in our care. You can check out our current wish lists here: York County SPCA: Get Involved : Wish List (ycspca.org)
Build a Snuffle Mat
It is our goal to provide animals with an enriching experience while they’re with us, waiting for their forever families. One way to provide mental stimulation is with snuffle mats. These tools are used to hide treats and food so that animals may sniff through the puzzle and find tasty rewards.
Make a Winter Shelter
We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in creating Winter Shelters that we can then give to Cat Colony Caretakers. (Read more about Community Cats here - Community Cats (ycspca.org) ) Providing shelter is a great way to keep unowned, community cats safe from the elements, especially as winter approaches. There are several options available for building for outdoor cat shelters.
Coordinate a Fundraiser
Celebrate your special occasion by collecting donations in lieu of gifts. Creating your own fundraiser is also a great way to engage your family, friends, coworkers, classmates, or community by giving back. Whether you are honoring a loved one or pet, or you want to make a difference in the lives of homeless animals, a fundraiser is a great way to support the York County SPCA. Interested in setting up your own York County SPCA fundraiser in person or online? Contact us today at volunteer@ycspca.org and a staff member will help you get started.
