    Our shelter is open for public browsing hours Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 12 – 4:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Our shelter is also available by appointment, Sunday – Saturday, from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Every animal at the YCSPCA deserves a loving, permanent home. From our adventurers to our cuddlers and couch potatoes, someone is waiting for you at the York County SPCA. During this open house, you’ll have the opportunity to meet current volunteers, learn about the different volunteer roles available, and ask questions about how you can get involved. From helping care for animals to supporting events and community programs, there are many ways to lend a helping hand.     Join us at the York County SPCA for our Give Day Open House, a community PAW-ty in celebration of Give Local York! This family-friendly event is the perfect way to come together, have fun, and support a lifesaving mission. Give Local York (April 30th-May 1st) is a 24-hour online giving event hosted by the White Rose Leadership Institute that brings our community together to support local nonprofits. Over the past eight years, thousands of donors have helped raise millions of dollars for organizations making a difference right here in York County. In 2025 alone, nearly 13,000 donors contributed an incredible $5.58 million in just one day. Enjoy an evening filled with food trucks, local vendors, kids activities, and interactive experiences for all ages. From face painting and a small animal petting zoo to our adopt-a-plushie station, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. You’ll even have the chance to meet some of our adoptable dogs as special guests during the event. As we celebrate together, we’ll also be watching the Give Local York donation countdown and highlighting the impact your support makes for animals in our community. Every donation helps provide care, shelter, and second chances for pets in need. Bring your friends and family, grab something delicious to eat, and join us for an evening of fun, connection, and compassion.     Join us for the York County SPCA Dogs' Day Out Presented by Explore York - the first Sunday of every month! More details are available here: Adventure Awaits With Our Dogs' Day Out | York County SPCA How to Sign Up: We post details about each event on our Facebook page several days before. The events fill up quickly, so please follow up and/or opt to get alerts when we post! Complete an application! Once you’ve submitted your application, our canine team will reach out in a few days to confirm your approval and match you with a dog! IF you have a specific dog in mind, please note that on your application. If that pup is already matched, we’ll help you pick another deserving dog for your outing. Dogs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to change (i.e., a dog gets sick, behavior changes, etc.). What Is Dogs’ Day Out? This program lets community members take one of our adoptable dogs out of the shelter for a day filled with fun and exploration! You can: Take them for a hike or a park stroll. Treat them to a pup cup at a drive-thru. Visit a dog-friendly store for a shopping spree. Create your own adventure—the possibilities are endless. Requirements: A reliable vehicle where the dog can be safely restrained or crated for transport. A valid driver’s license to be copied at the shelter. Participants must arrive at 9:00 a.m. at the Brougher Companion Animal Shelter – York County SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406. Basic safety and handling instructions will be provided before you leave. Important Details: Participants will lap around our facility with their assigned dog to ensure comfort and handling. Dogs must be returned to the shelter by 4:00 p.m. After the event, please complete a "Dogs' Day Out" report card to share how your dog enjoyed their adventure.
