News & Events

Our Dogs’ Day Out Program will now be held once a month on a regular basis. This month’s Dogs’ Day Out is this coming Sunday, July 28.

If you haven’t heard of this program, it is a way for community members to sign up and take one of our adoptable dogs out of the shelter for the day on a fun adventure! You can take them to a park for a hike/walk, through a drive-thru for a pup cup, to a dog-friendly store to meet new people and go shopping, etc. You can be as creative as you would like!

If you would like to sign up to take one of our shelter dogs out for the day, please read the info below:

APPLICATION PROCESS

If you would like to sign up, please complete an application at https://form.jotform.com/241914293302148 Once you submit your application, a member of our canine team will reach out to you over the next few days to let you know if you are approved and provide further instructions.

**Please Note: Due to our shelter dogs transitioning into and out of temporary foster care this week, we do not have a set list of dogs to choose from for this event. Once you are approved to participate in and arrive at our Dogs' Day Out on Sunday morning, our canine team will work to individually match you to a dog currently at our shelter you are comfortable taking out for the day. Thank you for your cooperation.**

REQUIREMENTS

You MUST have a reliable vehicle where the dog can be safely restrained or crated to transport them. When you arrive at the shelter, please bring a valid driver's license with you for us to make a copy to have on file.

Pick-up will be at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, at the Brougher Companion Animal Shelter – York County SPCA, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.

Once you arrive, our staff will review basic safety and handling; this is required to participate in the program. We will be available to answer your questions before leaving with your dog.

Before you leave, all participants will take a short lap around our facility, walking their assigned dog with a YCSPCA volunteer to ensure they are comfortable handling them.

Dogs MUST be returned to the shelter by 4:00 p.m. After the event, we ask that all participants complete a "Dogs' Day Out" report card. This information helps us learn more about dogs outside the stressful shelter environment. A link to the report card is available here: https://form.jotform.com/240396203250043.
SAVE THE DATE! If you miss out on this Dogs’ Day Out, our next one will be Sunday, August 11! Keep a lookout for more info during the week of the event!
